You are bidding on a large original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal.
It depicts a panoramic view of Georgetown, Demerara Guyana. THe vantage point is the Georgetown Lighthouse, and shows the harbor and Watrer Street on right and Fort Street on the left.
Demerara (Demerary) is a historical region in the Guianas on the north coast of South America which is now part of the country of Guyana. It was a Dutch colony until 1815 and a county of British Guiana from 1838 to 1966. It was located about the lower courses of the Demerara River, and its main town was Georgetown.
The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 cm). There is about a inch of unrelated text below it that could be trimmed before framing. The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
